Mostly Listening to

June 26 2005

Added a few new things to the music collection, bought them all from itunes (should probably put a disclaimer somewhere since I have itunes adverts too) which is a personal preference thing, some cds I like having the booklets etc but space is also an issue for me these days so it really depends on the artist. New artists and “best of”s = itunes, old favourites = cd.

With the formalities out of the way…

  • Foo Fighters – In your honor : This is a fantastic double cd. The hard rock disc is fast and doesn’t let up till the last guitar string. ‘No Way Back’, and ‘DOA’ are my favourites from the first disc, some great guitar riffs here. Actually I’ve been listening to the rock cd for so long I’ve forgotten to give the acoustic one it’s fair due of attention…
  • Stereophonics – Language Sex Violence Other : I bought this when Dakota was hitting the charts and wasn’t impressed with the rest of the album. So my mood has either changed or the times have caught up with the music, because I was listening to this the other night and it was hitting all the right notes for me. Standout tracks here are “Superman”, “Doorman”, “Girl” and of course “Dakota”. I must say I was sceptical when the Stereophonics changed their line up, but this one is fantastic.
  • Faithless – Forever Faithless : It takes a certain type of electronic act to get my attention. The ones that have struck a chord with me are Faithless and TV on the Radio. This album is a collection of some of the best dance music of the last decade. “Insomnia” still holds up as a great club anthem and while it’s cut down to the radio edit 3:28 “God is a DJ” is still as welcome to my ears as it was on Sunday 8pm.
  • Queens of the Stone Age – Lullabies to Paralyze : Do I need to go there? They’re quite simply the best down and dirty rock act hitting the radio and MTV today, “Everybody Knows Your Insane” is nice and fast with a melancholic aftertaste and “Little Sister” has a lovely pedal riff that does it for me.
  • The Cribs – The New Fellas – These dudes have been popping up on MTV2 quite a bit lately, so I figured I should check them out, some good stuff, playing on the same semi nostalgic area of the Libertines but with a new vibe that’s quite welcome. One to look out for I think.

Well that’s the stuff circulating on me ipod at the moment, I’m thinking I need to pay attention to how NME and other bloggers review albums to improve my skills for next time.

stereogum: OMG! Corgan To Reform Pumpkins, Marry Tom Cruise!

Well if this pans out, I know a certain aussie that will be very happy.

You’ve been put to the test/but it’s never enough!

For some odd reason I’ve been listening to a lot of Stan Bush lately..he did the Transformers Movie songs “Dare” and “The Touch” as well as the soundtracks to Kickboxer and Bloodsport, class 80s cheese pop power-ballads.

Gorillaz Demon Days

May 24 2005

Just got Demon Days, so far I think DARE is my favourite track, fantastic piece of pop and any track with Shaun Ryder on vocals is always a treat.

Only thing annoying me is that Safari isn’t supported on the secret website section just yet. Though it looks like internet explorer works with it, too bad that browser is bloody slow.
