The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight - The Joker, Batman and Harvey Dent

Bloody hell, the Dark Knight was a great movie, if not the greatest comic book movie so far!

Heath Ledger’s Joker was phenomenal and pitch perfect to the comic Joker. I loved that his backstory and identity are cast off as unimportant, he’s a force of nature, a hurricane, there’s no way to get to him, which makes the character the exact opposite of Bruce Wayne’s emotionally driven character, as he should be. What also sold the character for me, is that while the term ‘criminal mastermind’ gets bandied around in reference to these villains, the Joker is shown to truly be one by making plan after sadistic plan, rather than unleashing a doomsday device in the last 20 minutes. I really wish we could have seen this Joker again.

Likewise Harvey Dent played by Aaron Eckhart was amazing. While we know his tale concludes with him becoming Two Face, Ekchart played him with such integrity and valour, that you believe this man could save save Gotham, which makes his decline the most upsetting part in the picture.

I might add the geek in me really appreciated the classic white lenses look Batman has at the end of the film and the Long Halloween style rooftop meeting between Batman, Gordon and Dent.

The Joker

I could talk this film up all day, but the reviewers are doing that better than I can. It’s a really awesome flick and if you’re that one guy(or gal) who hasn’t seen it yet, get off your arse and do so!

Corey Lewis' Dead in the Now

Corey Lewis, the creator of the critically acclaimed series Sharknife and PENG has a new online comic that’s in the running on Zuda called “Dead in the Now“.

Just look at the art in the image here, it’s freaking fantastic, it’s some of the best work in Rey’s career! So hurry up and vote so we can see some more!

(Pretty Late) Thursday Reflections

May 5 2008

Ok so I’m a little behind here, admittedly it’s mostly because I forgot I was doing these, but anyway here’s my reactions to last week’s pretty dry selection:

DC Universe 0

Basically we’ve got an advertising book here, time was these things would be free, now they’re 40p. Looking forward to seeing Barry Allen back and that multiple Legion story.

Green Lantern 30

So did infinite crisis make it so that all of the reactionary innovations to the GL Corps were always in place, like the training Lanterns etc? If so, doesn’t that lessen the impact of the rebirth storyline?

Iron Fist 14

Seriously Marvel, these 14 issues are a hit movie served up and ready to go. Make it happen.

New X-men Warriors 11

It still annoys me that Bandit in posing as his brother Night Thrasher, managed to change his skeletal structure from being a big dude, to a lean clone of his half brother.

Bonus round!

So this week also saw the release of Ironman, which I cannot find any fault with whatsoever, perfect cast, perfect story, perfect effects. Best Marvel movie yet, kudos Marvel Studios.

Someone’s back…
