I’m still in shock at this one. Mike Wieringo, the amazing artist of so many of my favourite comics has passed away at the age of 44.
My heart sank as soon as I saw this news in my inbox, he was one of the greats and will be sorely missed.
I first discovered his work in Sensational Spider-man, during the Ben Reilly phase, the covers of these two issues just jumped at me off the shelves

The art inside was magnificent, in particular a sequence of Spider-man changing to his Ben Reilly guise whilst jumping through the air.

After that Weiringo became the first comic artist I followed from book to book, Tellos, Flash, Fantastic Four and many more as well as buying a batch of x-men colouring books he had illustrated, a wonderful Spider-man poster that has been with me for at least a decade and a Spider-man action figure based on his designs.
He was as great a story teller as he was an artist, his blog spoke of many projects he wanted to do in the future, it depresses me that I’ll never get to see those.
He will be greatly missed.
