what I’ve been doing….

June 27 2006

I try to keep up to date with this blog but things be all over the place at the moment this is what I’m up to right now:

Finishing a massive site redevelopment for me employers, which I’ll be glad to but to rest after 6 months of work.

Widening my coding base, in the last month I’ve been looking into and doing more stuff with javascript, actionscript, php, ruby on rails and mySQL…it’s actually been quite fun. Though it was  a bitch to get mysql running on my imac…it’s cool now though.

Drawing and designing! I’ve come up with about 3 new characters that will probably feature heavily in the next redesign of this place. I really need to work at vectoring these.
Design wise, I have a new design for this place that will do up in a few weeks, right now I’m just working on the placement of items. This will also be a textpattern implementation as I really love their ui and find their tagging system far more elegant than wordpress.

Finally I’ll be looking at expanding the site to include projects I’m working on, basically I’m gaining a bit of focus, also picking up healthier eating habits…so it seems I’m making changes for the better.

The next thing I should work on is developing my writing techniques to become a better writer..proof reading would probably help.

wherein the author rambles about @media 2006

June 18 2006

So it took me a couple of days to gather my scattered brain as the flight/alergies combining leaving me feeling a bit off.

@Media in a word was wicked, in two, wondrously wicked. The stuff I learned there is really invaluable to my working life as a web designer and really has given me the kick in the arse I’ve been needing to really get stuff done.

A lotta people were blogging during the sessions, so you’ll probably find more info from those guys, I felt I should just talk about what I found the most important thing of the whole conference. The tone.

See I’ve been to these things before and most of the time, we’re talking about some guy, sitting at a laptop talking about how cool this stuff is and spouting off buzzwords. Here we had a more relaxed atmosphere, speakers who don’t take themselves too seriously and will say what’s on their minds. Personally I think this makes for a better experience.

Anyway, the whole thing has got me thinking about this site, so I’ve started work on a summer redesign, that I’m about 2/3 into. This time I’ll be bringing a greater focus onto doing web design and the projects I’m working on, as well as rolling my retrosuper sketchblog into this and giving my photography more consideration.

Ah direction, it smells so sweet!

He was an absolute genius. It makes me sad that that shows like superfriends would go off model so often.
