Took some photos this afternoon, the light in edinburgh today is brilliant and the shadows lush.

So I’ve been meaning to pick up this album for a while, on Friday I just thought “fuck it” and went for it. I have to say I’m not disappointed in the least.

Maximo Park’s sound is in the range of the current crop of new art rockers like Bloc Party, taking cues from both the vibrant dance music scene and from 80s bands like the Jam and The Smiths. The latter in particular on “Postcard of a Painting” which is reminiscent of “This Charming Man” in tempo and tune.

Fast melancholic love songs like “Limassol” the aforementioned “Postcard of a Painting” serve as an instant hook, no doubt worthy of singledom, (mind you I’m not sure what they’ve released as chart tracks yet) with “Going Missing” standing out as a sombre anthem of self destruction after a particularly messy break up.

Great riffs, funky synths and a geordie accent, brilliant.
