Manga Fantastic Four

June 22 2005

First look at the new FF cartoon.

Dear lord….did the thing spray paint a 4 on his chest to be “xtreme”?

I think that “Marvel Babies” poster to the right is even more worrying though.

It Begins! (Spoilers)

June 21 2005

Okay so I saw Batman Begins this afternoon and loved it.

The use of the cape as a glider and some of the manoeuvres taken with it were just awesome, like wise the way batman’s psychological style of fighting, picking off thugs one by one, which is how I’m my mind he should fight. (though add a shadow that looms and moves like Ringu’s Sadako and it would be spot on) My other favourite visual was Bruce returning to the cave and becoming one with the bats.

It could have done with more time with the Scarecrow, I did like the way he was less of a super villain type and more of a psycho who enjoys fucking with people’s heads.

Michael Caine’s Alfred was just spot on with the camaraderie he shares with Bruce, which contrasted with Alf’s more reluctant and subservient portrayal in the first four films. It was also interesting that Alfred was becoming increasingly disappointed at Bruce Wayne’s playboy facade as Bruce is not only dragging his own name but also his father’s name through the mud. That’s something that I don’t think was ever addressed in the comics before.

Katie Holmes’ character Rachel Dawes, while not terrible, shouldn’t have been privy to Bruce’s dual id. But on the flip side I dug that she identified the fact that Batman is the real Bruce Wayne and was the one who made the decision that they shouldn’t be together unlike the similar situations in superman 2 and spider-man.

Neeson as Ducard was fantastic and that line “R’as Al Ghul is immortal”….perfect.
While they weren’t on for too long I found the use of Gordon and Fox in the film to be quite effective, it’s a common concept in the comics and cartoon that Bruce surrounds himself with the good people of Gotham, however that never really transferred to the films. I hope to see Gordon and Bats solving cases at the Bat signal in the next film.

The tumbler was awesome and I want one.
